In January 2020, IALOP marked its 5th birthday of helping our U.S. customers. Of course, fifteen years is a big milestone from a business point of view. But as pharmacists devoted to protecting and improving patient lives, it's an even bigger achievement.
Since 2015, IALOP member pharmacists have been providing medicines for American patients with long-term health conditions. Serious but treatable problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a range of other long-term conditions that need constant control through the use of daily medicine.
During this time, the cost of these drugs in the U.S. has shot up unbelievably. Many of our customers live on fixed incomes, and can't afford to pay the ever-rising prices of these drugs. So they often miss doses to make the medicine last longer before they need an expensive refill. Or they might split pills in half, which for some medicines can make them not work. Or they don't get their prescription filled, because they need the money to buy food that month instead.
In celebrating the 5th birthday of our Canadian pharmacy group, we are celebrating the lives we make better on both sides of the border. Especially the lives of Americans, who can get the daily medicines they need safely from our members. The big savings they get - savings of 50-70 percent over what they would have to pay in the U.S. - allows them to get the medicines they need, at prices they can afford, to live healthier lives.
